Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs |
The Five Need satisfaction measures
The Five Need Satisfaction Measures were designed by Taormina and Gao (2013), they are intended to measure the level of satisfaction for each of the 5 needs (e.g physiological, safety, emotional, esteem, self-actualization). The five need satisfaction measures consisted of a total of 72 items that are scored by averaging up items for each need based on a 5-point likert scale (1 = strongly disagree, 5 = strongly agree). Higher mean scores produced by each individual need represents a stronger satisfaction for that specific need. If you would like measure your level of satisfaction for each of the 5 needs please refer to the link below, where you can view the measures on pages (176-177).
The Physiological Need Satisfaction Scale, Safety-Security Needs Satisfaction Scale, Belongingness Need Satisfaction Scale, and Esteem Needs Satisfaction Scale each contain 15 items. The instructions for the 4 need measures are provided below:
Instructions: Indicate how much you agree or disagree with the statement (1 = Strongly disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Neither agree or disagree, 4 = Agree, 5 = Strongly agree)

The Self-Actualization Need Scale contains 12 items. The instructions for this scale is provided below:
